Western Australian Community Foundation is a wonderful example of just that - building a stronger community through the commitment of individuals wanting to improve the opportunities and lives of others. In other words, "adding value" to the relationships between each other and within the community to build capacity in a sustainable way.
During the past four years, Western Australian Community Foundation has grown from an optimistic idea to a tremendous reality. Five cornerstone partners - St John of God Health Care, Rio Tinto WA Future Fund, Wesfarmers, Lotterywest and Alcoa Alumina Australia - have played a critical role in supporting the establishment and work of the Foundation. I commend the involvement of these businesses for their leadership and for their vision and commitment to the Foundation and to Western Australian communities.
Western Australia is one of the best places to live in the world, with enormous opportunity and potential to draw on creative and cooperative strengths in support of sustainable communities. It is my honour to be the Patron of an organisation that is seizing the opportunity to harness this potential with this goal in mind.
The Foundation is now entering an era where community investment returns will begin to enrich our State at the grass roots.
I would like to offer my congratulations to those who have been involved and committed to the development and ongoing management of this Foundation - to the Directors who provide their skills and expertise to achieve the mission and to the staff and volunteers, past and present. Collectively, they help make the Foundation one of our most innovative organisations that is providing opportunities for our Western Australian communities to flourish, now and into the future.
