Wagerup Sustainability Fund
|
In an effort to enhance its community support, Alcoa has begun contributing to a local community fund.
|
|
 |
Established with the support of the local community, the fund will exist in perpetuity, and has the capacity to help grow a nest egg for future generations.
The fund will support community organisations, initiatives, processes and activities that contribute to the local government regions known as Waroona shire and Harvey shire; and projects that:
-
Produce long term sustainable outcomes for communities in and around Harvey and Waroona;
-
Enhance leadership, knowledge, enterprise and innovation;
-
Further preserve and protect the local environment; and
-
Contribute to creating stronger communities.
How the fund works?
Initiatives will be driven by community involvement and consultation with local shires with funding to be allocated upon recommendations made by two local advisory committees to Western Australian Community Foundation, as Trustee.
How will grants be made?
The Fund, established with an initial donation of $400,000 from Alcoa will be administered by Western Australian Community Foundation as Trustee. Further, Alcoa has made a multi million dollar commitment to the Fund, which will be linked to production at the Wagerup refinery and could be up to $15 million over the next 20 years.
Alcoa’s initial contribution to the Fund will be invested, along with any future contributions. The long term goal is to build an endowment that generates interest in perpetuity and provides a permanent donation back to the community.
Two local advisory committees, representing communities within the Shire of Harvey and Shire of Waroona have been established to work closely with the Foundation by seeking and recommending local initiatives to effectively distribute funds to the respective community.
